Welcome to The Dr. Bailey K. Ashford School PS 287K! At PS 287K, we are dedicated to providing a high-quality, challenging, and internationally minded education that prepares students for success in a rapidly evolving world. Our school is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and is currently pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to inquiry-based learning, global citizenship, and academic excellence. We believe that an international education is essential in helping students develop into curious, knowledgeable, and caring individuals who are equipped to make a difference in their communities and beyond. At P.S. 287 we develop and prepare students ages 3-12 to become globally minded citizens. Our unique elementary education blends the best of two learning models to maximize our children’s total potential. To ensure high academic achievement for all students, teachers instruct with an evidence-based core curriculum in literacy and math to ensure that students are challenged academically. All children will begin their in-depth journey into transdisciplinary learning by using the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program as early as 2.5 years old! This allows us to focus on the development of the whole child in the classroom and in the world outside, by encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development. We foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where students are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning. Our educators are dedicated to guiding students through engaging, transdisciplinary experiences that connect real-world issues to classroom learning. As an IB candidacy school the IB’s programs help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.
